Rockford Moppa Springs Grenache Shiraz Mataro, Barossa Valley
Rockford
Rockford Wines feature high quality traditional wines made from some of the best old Barossa vineyards. the brand can only be described as an icon, no matter how overused that word may be. It has a devoted band of customers who buy most of the wine through the cellar door or mail. Some wine is sold through restaurants, and there are two retailers in Sydney, and one each in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Whether they will have the Basket Press Shiraz available is another matter; it is as scarce as Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz but less expensive.

Tasting note: Rockford Moppa Springs Grenache Shiraz Mataro, Barossa Valley
Moppa Springs, Ebenezer and Kalimna are some of the driest areas in the Barossa, where green vines grow on one side of the fence and ripened wheat on the other. This hard country is cold, wet and frosty during pruning - then hot, dry and dusty during harvest: the kind of tough conditions that ensure Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz give their best. These varieties and the families who grow them earned the right to represent the Barossa in this traditional blend by surviving for more than 150 years when others could not.
