Rockford Alicante Bouchet
Rockford
Rockford Wines feature high quality traditional wines made from some of the best old Barossa vineyards. the brand can only be described as an icon, no matter how overused that word may be. It has a devoted band of customers who buy most of the wine through the cellar door or mail. Some wine is sold through restaurants, and there are two retailers in Sydney, and one each in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Whether they will have the Basket Press Shiraz available is another matter; it is as scarce as Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz but less expensive.

Tasting note: Rockford Alicante Bouchet
Alicante Bouschet is the only grape variety in the Rockford stable without a long history of viticulture in the Barossa Valley. Grenache however does, and has been part of the landscape for more than 150 years. Because Alicante has a genetic link to Grenache, it is well adapted to our warm Mediterranean climate. Alicante Bouschet is a variety which ripens with full flavour at low sugar levels, allowing us to make a fresh, spicy and aromatic Rosé-style wine with naturally low alcohol.
